Lecture on “Emergent Eurasian Trends 2026-2030: Lessons for Pakistan”
On January 16, 2026, the Area Study Centre for Europe, University of Karachi, organised a lecture on the theme, “Emergent Eurasian trends 2026-2030: Lessons for Pakistan”. Dr. Najam Abbas, a London-based scholar who has been associated with the Institute of Ismaili Studies and the East-West Institute Brussels, delivered the lecture.
With the help of detailed, fact-laden, and incisive slides, Dr. Abbas comprehensively laid out the evolving strategic and logistical map of Eurasia. In this regard, he contrasted the infrastructural development in our neighbourhood with the policy paralysis and chronic bureaucratic lethargy prevalent in Pakistan, which had been preventing the country from making efficient use of growing opportunities. Dismissing the usual sloganeering with which we enwrap some of our diplomatic relationships, he urged relevant authorities to take steps grounded in reality.
He interspersed his talk with pertinent real-life instances that supported his assertions.
The interactive nature of the lecture kept the audience engaged and absorbed, providing plenty of food for thought.
